For bands and musicians
Scheduling band practice around everyone's day jobs
Bands usually have a short list of possible rehearsal slots and a rehearsal space that has to be booked. CouldBeDown shows your Google Calendar busy times on the grid, finds the long evening or weekend overlap, and lets you propose two options so you can book whichever the room has free.
Free. No account needed for you or your guests.
Four members with day jobs
Four invented bandmates have marked late afternoon and evening windows on three weeknights and Saturday. Add yourself as a fifth and look for two to three hours in a row.
Best overlap: Sat 5 PM to 8 PM (4 of 5 free); Tue 7 PM to 9 PM (4 of 5 free).
Weeknights are short, so the overlap is small
A band with day jobs has a narrow window: after work, before the neighbours complain. On a plain calendar it is hard to see whether four people really share two and a half hours on Thursday. On the grid, the overlap is a visible patch, and it is easy to see that Saturday afternoon is roomier than any weeknight.
If you connect Google Calendar, your existing commitments appear as busy times while you paint, so members do not accidentally offer an evening they already gave away.
Offer two slots so you can book the room
Rehearsal rooms, garages and studios have their own availability. Rather than agree a time and then discover the space is taken, propose two candidate slots, book whichever the room has, and confirm that one. Everyone RSVPs to what they can make, so you know before the amp is loaded into the car whether the drummer is really coming.
The location field carries the room's name or address into the plan and the calendar entry, which helps when a band rehearses in different places.
When you do not need any of this
If your band has a standing Tuesday at 7 that never moves, skip the poll and send a recurring calendar invite. CouldBeDown is for the weeks the schedule shifts: before a gig, when the singer has a new shift pattern, or when the usual room is unavailable.
Band-rehearsal needs, and the honest limits
| What this group needs | How CouldBeDown handles it | Honest limit or better option |
|---|---|---|
| Work around day jobs | Google Calendar busy times appear on the grid (opt-in) | Only Google Calendar; Outlook and Apple busy times do not appear |
| Two to three hours in a row | Choose an event length in 30-minute steps; read the overlap on the grid | It does not check that blocks are unbroken; you read them off the colors |
| Book the room first | Propose two or more times, RSVP to each | It does not book the space for you |
| Rehearsal location | Location field on the plan and calendar entry | No maps or venue availability |
| A standing weekly slot | Plan again can copy settings | A recurring calendar invite is simpler; recurring plans are not built |
Who CouldBeDown is and isn't for

- Pre-gig scheduling where extra rehearsals have to be squeezed in.

- You want to manage setlists, gigs or the studio booking itself.
Frequently asked questions
How do we find a rehearsal time when everyone works?
- Set the daily window to the hours you actually play, have each member paint their free time, and read off the longest shared stretch. Connecting Google Calendar shows each person's busy times as they paint.
Can we offer two rehearsal times and pick after we book the room?
- Yes. Propose more than one time on the same plan, book the room for whichever is free, and confirm that one.
Can I set a three-hour rehearsal?
- Yes. Event length is set in 30-minute steps, so three hours is six steps.
Does it put rehearsals in our calendars?
- A confirmed plan can be added to Google Calendar for members who connect it, and anyone can download an .ics file for other calendars.
Is it good for a standing weekly rehearsal?
- No, a recurring calendar invite is simpler for a fixed slot. Use CouldBeDown when the time has to be worked out.
What does it cost?
- CouldBeDown is free to use right now.
